Lead in Cables

A Lead-In cable is a physical connection between your home and the carrier’s network that allows

home phone and internet services to be supplied to your property.  The carrier,  Telstra or NBN is
responsible for supplying the majority of the network, however, you’re responsible for supplying the
trench or conduit to the PEP (Property Entry Point).  On private property through which Lead-in
cable will be installed through to the NTD or 1 st point.  The network owner either NBN or Telstra is
responsible from the PEP to the pit, or to save time you can engage a certified contractor to
complete the work connecting you lead-in into the pit.  A Lead-In installation whether underground
or aerial can be determined by the network type installed in your street.

Clearance of aerial lines from the ground

The minimum ground clearances required for aerial lead-in cabling in residential areas are as

  • Over any private land not traversable by road vehicles – 2.7m
